Reports of misconduct by a cardiologist at the Government Medical College in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district have caused concern among the public. Dr. Syed Maqbool is facing serious allegations of falsifying medical records, conducting unnecessary surgeries, and making false insurance claims. The government accused Dr. Maqbool of performing unindicated procedures and exploiting patients for financial gain.
An investigation revealed that Dr. Maqbool had misrepresented procedures and extorted money from patients entitled to free healthcare. The cardiologist allegedly committed a pacemaker implantation scam involving over 100 heart patients and financially exploited beneficiaries of a government-sponsored healthcare scheme. These actions were deemed as a breach of medical ethics and a violation of patient rights.
Authorities also accused Dr. Maqbool of bypassing official procurement channels and sourcing medical supplies directly from private vendors. This practice was found to be in contravention of established guidelines and compromised the integrity of the healthcare system. The cardiologist now faces disciplinary action, including possible termination from service, for his alleged misconduct and malpractice.
