A cargo vessel was attacked by unknown armed assailants off Yemen’s Red Sea coast, as reported by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO). The incident occurred about 30 nautical miles southwest of the port city of Hodeidah. Authorities are currently investigating the attack, with no immediate details provided on the attackers, casualties, or damage to the vessel.
The UKMTO has advised caution to vessels transiting the area and urged them to report any suspicious activities. This incident adds to the ongoing security concerns in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, where commercial vessels have been facing various attacks, attempted boardings, and piracy-related incidents in recent times.
In a separate event, the Indian Navy responded promptly to an attempted pirate attack on a Grenadian-flagged bulk carrier, located approximately 300 nautical miles east-northeast of Djibouti. The vessel, MV Golden Arsenal, with 21 crew members including an Indian national, reported the attack on the afternoon of July 1. The Indian Navy’s INS Trikand mission, stationed in the region, was directed to intercept the merchant vessel following the report.
The Master of MV Golden Arsenal confirmed the safety of all crew members despite damage to the bridge superstructure and adjoining compartments. The crew sought refuge in the vessel’s citadel during the attack.
