One cattle smuggler sustained injuries, and two others were apprehended by the police during a confrontation in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district. The incident occurred in the Salempur police station area when the police intercepted a vehicle being used for cattle smuggling. Upon noticing the police, the criminals resorted to firing. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, a suspect named Bholu Yadav was wounded in the leg. Additionally, two other suspects, Narayan Yadav and Nagendra Kumar, were captured at the scene by the police. The injured individual was promptly taken to the hospital for medical attention. The police seized an illegal pistol, live and spent cartridges, the smuggling vehicle, and the cattle from the location. A case has been filed at Salempur Police Station, and further legal procedures are underway. The operation was conducted by a joint team from Salempur and Lar Police Stations, under the leadership of Salempur Station Head Mahendra Kumar Chaturvedi. This incident follows recent events where two cow smugglers were injured and arrested in separate police encounters in Jaunpur and Ballia districts of Uttar Pradesh. In Jaunpur, a clash between the police and cow smugglers occurred in the Khuthan police station area on December 18. A notorious cow smuggler was wounded by police gunfire, and one associate was apprehended after being encircled by the police. The police recovered a car without a number plate, a homemade pistol, two empty cartridges, and some cash from the scene. In a separate incident on the same day in Ballia district, the police arrested a wanted suspect in a cow slaughter case after an encounter. The suspect sustained a leg injury from police gunfire and was admitted to the Community Health Centre in Sonbarsa for medical treatment.
