The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a senior Central Railway official and two individuals in connection with an alleged Rs 40 lakh bribery case. The arrests were made during raids conducted across Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Karjat, where cash and jewelry worth Rs 1.47 crore were seized.
Ramesh Kumar Chauve, the Chief Electrical Distribution Engineer at Central Railway, along with Anshul Varma and Kanay Varma, were taken into custody following searches at multiple locations. The CBI disclosed that the case involves suspected irregularities in the award of a tender valued at Rs 40.54 crore to a private company.
According to the CBI, the accused Chief Electrical Distribution Engineer colluded with stakeholders of the private company to secure the tender award and demanded a bribe of Rs 40 lakh or 1% of the tender value. The CBI’s operation successfully captured the official accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a private individual, leading to his arrest.
