The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended two main suspects linked to the leak of the General Departmental Competitive Examination (GDCE)-2022 question paper by South Western Railway for the Goods Train Manager position. The arrests were made in Bengaluru on July 3 after investigative searches. The CBI disclosed that 23 individuals were charged based on a complaint from South Western Railway, with allegations including criminal conspiracy, cheating, and corruption involving a public official.
The agency seized incriminating evidence, such as documents, electronic devices like scanners and printers used in the fraudulent activity, examination materials, and candidate information during the searches at the suspects’ locations. Investigations have unveiled a plot where the arrested individuals were allegedly involved in leaking the question paper and providing it to favored candidates before the exam. The CBI has identified the two detainees as the main orchestrators of the question paper leak.
The suspects were presented before a Bengaluru court, which granted the CBI four days of custody for further questioning. The CBI affirmed that efforts are ongoing to uncover and arrest other individuals implicated in the conspiracy.
