The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended two key suspects linked to a human trafficking scheme that deceived Indian job seekers into cyber slavery in Myanmar and Cambodia. One of the detainees facilitated logistics for trafficking victims from India to Myanmar via Thailand, while the other managed a network of sub-agents for scam compound operators. The investigations reveal a criminal network enticing Indian citizens with lucrative job offers in Southeast Asia, only to subject them to cyber slavery in scam compounds.
The arrested individuals are accused of orchestrating the transportation and operational support for the trafficking network, which coerced Indian nationals into engaging in illegal cyber activities. These victims, confined in scam compounds run by transnational cybercrime syndicates, endured severe restrictions on their freedom, confiscation of passports, and various forms of abuse. Families of the victims often had to pay significant sums to secure their release from these exploitative situations.
In a related development, the CBI previously conducted raids across four states, leading to the arrest of another individual involved in the trafficking ring. The agency cautioned citizens against falling for fraudulent overseas job offers circulated through social media, messaging apps, or informal channels. It emphasized the importance of verifying the legitimacy of job opportunities through official means to avoid financial losses, exploitation, and potential legal, physical, and psychological repercussions.
