The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended Tapan Pramanik, the mastermind behind a Rs 4 crore investment scam in Tripura, from Nadia district, West Bengal. Pramanik, who had been evading authorities since 2012, was nabbed following extensive field verification and surveillance. He was declared a Proclaimed Offender by a Special CBI Court in Tripura on January 16, 2023.
His arrest was based on information gathered through detailed analysis of Call Data Records (CDR) and field investigations. Pramanik, the Director of M.P.S. Agro-Animal Projects Ltd, faced allegations of duping the public of Rs 3 to 4 crore under the guise of investment schemes. The CBI initiated the case against him and others on October 8, 2013, in response to notifications from the Tripura and Central governments.
Pramanik, who did not cooperate with the investigation, was charged as an absconder, leading to a warrant for his arrest. Despite efforts to locate him, he remained elusive until his recent arrest. The accused company, MPA Agro-Animals Projects Limited, implicated in the fraud, is a publicly unlisted entity operating in the agricultural sector in Santipur, Nadia, West Bengal.
