The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended Proclaimed Offender Khalid-Uz-Zaman in connection with West Bengal’s 2021 post-poll violence case from Yetala village in Maharashtra’s Nanded district. Khalid-Uz-Zaman had evaded authorities since the FIR was lodged in 2021 and had not participated in the investigation or trial.
The CBI initiated the case on September 1, 2021, following a directive from the Calcutta High Court, taking over the Duttapukur police station FIR No. 286/2021 related to the alleged killing of Hasnur Zaman on May 3, 2021, in North Kalsara village, West Bengal. Subsequently, the CBI filed chargesheets against 13 accused individuals in 2021-22, including Khalid-Uz-Zaman.
Khalid-Uz-Zaman was presented before the Competent Court at Dharmabad for Transit Remand and was scheduled to be transported to Kolkata for a court appearance before the Additional Session Judge at Barasat, West Bengal. In a separate operation targeting cybercrime networks involved in digital arrest scams, the CBI conducted searches across 16 states, leading to the arrest of two individuals for alleged involvement in money laundering activities through shell companies and mule bank accounts.
