The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) apprehended a manager from Punjab National Bank’s Bhadrauli Branch in Agra’s Barhan, Uttar Pradesh, for his involvement in an alleged bribery incident. The arrest was made following a complaint by a private company employee, accusing the bank manager of soliciting Rs 7,000 per loan file to process approximately 19 solar panel loan applications.
The complainant claimed that after negotiations, the accused agreed to receive a total bribe of Rs 52,000 to approve the 19 loan files, which had already been sanctioned by the bank. Acting on the complaint, the CBI conducted a sting operation and caught the manager red-handed while demanding and accepting a partial payment of Rs 30,000 from the complainant. The arrested individual is set to appear before the court in Ghaziabad for further legal proceedings.
Earlier, on June 25, the CBI convened a coordination meeting with the Department of Financial Services (DFS) and Chief Vigilance Officers of various public sector banks, IDBI Bank, and Life Insurance Corporation of India to discuss strategies for expediting investigations into bank fraud cases. The meeting, attended by high-ranking officials, addressed several key issues related to corruption prevention and fraud detection in the banking sector.
