The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) reported the arrest of three individuals linked to the misappropriation of funds from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) in Ladakh’s Kargil district. Among those arrested were an Assistant Engineer (Civil) from BRO, Ladakh, and two labor supply agents from Kargil involved in diverting BRO funds. The arrested Assistant Engineer, who oversaw the Khatse Batalic Sector under 81 RCC, BRO, collaborated with the agents to siphon funds under false laborer names, with the agents depositing the money into his account.
The CBI initiated four FIRs related to fund misappropriation in various BRO projects in Ladakh, leading to searches at 26 locations, with additional searches in Himachal Pradesh. The accused individuals are undergoing legal procedures before the Jurisdictional Court in Ladakh. The cases involve allegations of criminal misconduct, bribery of public servants, conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust, and forgery under the IPC, based on complaints from the Ministry of Defence. Investigations are ongoing, with the CBI ensuring a thorough and prompt inquiry.
The BRO, a Ministry of Defence entity in India, is responsible for developing and managing road networks in border areas and neighboring countries. With operations in multiple states, union territories, and abroad, the BRO has constructed extensive roadways, bridges, and airfields. Additionally, the BRO maintains critical infrastructure, including snow clearance operations.
