The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) are carrying out raids at five locations in and around Kolkata related to a multi-crore bank loan forgery investigation. The areas under scrutiny include Alipore in South Kolkata and New Town in the northern outskirts.
These raids are targeting the residences of influential businessmen in Kolkata who are accused of obtaining bank loans worth crores through forged documents. The actions are based on specific complaints filed by the bank authorities regarding the alleged fraudulent loan processing.
In Alipore, the raid is focused on the residence of a prominent female entrepreneur. Notably, the number of CAPF personnel assisting the CBI teams during these operations exceeds the usual deployment seen in similar past actions.
The increased presence of CAPF personnel during these raids is seen as a precautionary measure following an incident involving the Enforcement Directorate officials last week. This move is believed to prevent any interference similar to what occurred during a recent raid at the Indian Political Action Committee office and the residence of its co-founder.
