In a significant ruling, the Central Bureau of Investigation Court in Lucknow has sentenced Jishan Khan to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 9,000 for the culpable homicide of Inspector Anil Kumar in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh. The court’s decision, delivered on May 2, was based on the evidence and the accused’s confession during trial proceedings, according to a CBI press release. The case dates back to November 19, 2015, when Inspector Anil Kumar was found dead at a hotel in Pratapgarh.
The investigation initially began at a local police station and was later taken over by the CBI following a directive from the Allahabad High Court. After completing its probe, the CBI filed a charge sheet against two accused individuals, including Jishan Khan. The court framed charges against both accused persons in December 2022. Jishan Khan confessed to the charges during the trial, leading to his separate case and subsequent conviction.
The Special Judge, CBI, Lucknow, based the conviction on the available evidence and the accused’s confession. Jishan Khan’s sentencing to 10 years in prison marks a partial resolution in a case that has been under judicial review for an extended period. Legal proceedings against the other accused are ongoing.
