The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a seventh chargesheet related to alleged fraudulent activities by builders in Noida. Sequel Buildcon, a company that promised high-end flats in Noida, has been arraigned for cheating home buyers. The charges involve a housing project in Noida where the building company and its Directors are accused of fraudulent activities.
An investigation by the CBI uncovered that the accused builders, in a criminal conspiracy, misled homebuyers and investors with false assurances and deceptive promises. This led to financial gains for the builders while causing losses to the victims. The chargesheet has been submitted before a Special Court under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code concerning criminal conspiracy, cheating, and criminal breach of trust.
The CBI is currently looking into 50 cases as directed by the Supreme Court, involving various builder companies and officials of financial institutions across the country. The investigation aims to address alleged cheating and fund diversion issues. Previously, the CBI had filed six charge sheets in similar cases involving different builder companies and their Directors, along with officials from banks and financial institutions.
Sequel Buildcon and its Directors, according to the CBI investigation, engaged in a criminal conspiracy by misleading homebuyers and diverting funds meant for the promised project. The builders collected booking amounts under false pretenses and utilized the funds for purposes other than the designated project, resulting in illicit financial gains. The CBI emphasizes its commitment to ensuring accountability in cases of economic offenses, corruption, and public fraud, especially those impacting the interests of common citizens and homebuyers.
