The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) interrogated Reliance Group Chairperson Anil Ambani for 8 hours regarding a complaint filed by the SBI concerning an alleged Rs 2,929 crore fraud by Reliance Communications (RCom). Ambani is scheduled for further questioning at the CBI office on Friday. The CBI initiated an inquiry after the SBI reported a loss of Rs 2,929 crore due to purported misappropriation by RCom and Anil Ambani through transactions that breached loan terms.
Amit Dangi, the whole-time Director at Authum Investment & Infrastructure Ltd., was also questioned for 7 hours in connection with the same case. Authum Investment has acquired the assets of Reliance Commercial Finance Ltd. and Reliance Home Finance Ltd., both subjects of investigation. Anil Ambani had approached the Supreme Court in December following the Bombay High Court’s validation of the SBI’s case filing decision. He claimed that crucial documents supporting the classification orders were not initially provided to him.
Reliance Communications, once a prominent telecom operator, is undergoing insolvency proceedings due to financial losses and substantial debt. Recently, Anil Ambani’s son, Jai Anmol Ambani, was probed by the CBI for two days in relation to a Rs 228 crore fraud case involving Reliance Home Finance Ltd (RHFL). The investigation also involves the former CEO of RHFL, Ravindra Sudhalkar, and others. The CBI registered a criminal case on December 6, 2025, based on a complaint by Union Bank of India, alleging a bank fraud of Rs 228.06 crore.
