The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned actor-turned-politician Vijay, also known as Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) Chief, to appear in New Delhi on March 15 regarding the Karur stampede case. The tragic incident took place during a party event in Karur last year, claiming 41 lives and injuring over 60 individuals. Vijay had previously been questioned by the CBI twice this year about the arrangements at the rally where the stampede occurred.
The TVK leadership had requested a 15-day extension for Vijay’s appearance, which was granted by the CBI. The agency is investigating the sequence of events leading to the stampede, focusing on crowd control measures, event permissions, and the responsibilities of organizers and local authorities. V. Senthilbalaji, a DMK legislator and former Tamil Nadu Minister, has also been summoned by the CBI for questioning on March 17 regarding the same case.
Former Minister Senthilbalaji has confirmed his cooperation with the investigation and willingness to provide clarifications on the circumstances surrounding the Karur stampede tragedy. The CBI is conducting a detailed probe into the incident after the Supreme Court transferred the case from a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The agency continues to gather evidence and statements from key witnesses to establish accountability for one of the deadliest crowd disasters in recent political gatherings in Tamil Nadu.
