The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has issued a fresh summons to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay, directing him to appear in New Delhi on Monday in connection with the Karur stampede. The tragic incident occurred during a political campaign in Karur on September 27, 2025, led by Vijay, resulting in 41 fatalities. This development follows a series of inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the stampede.
The CBI investigation, overseen by a committee chaired by retired Supreme Court judge Justice Ajay Rastogi, has been focusing on unraveling the events that led to the tragic incident. In recent weeks, the agency has intensified its scrutiny, questioning several senior TVK officials, including the party’s general secretary and other key members. The agency is seeking to ascertain Vijay’s role and responsibilities in connection with the Karur event.
Vijay had previously appeared before CBI officials for questioning on January 12, where he provided detailed explanations regarding the political campaign and the stampede. Following the Pongal festival, he has been summoned again for further questioning as the CBI continues its efforts to establish accountability in the aftermath of the Karur tragedy. Vijay is expected to travel to Delhi for his second round of interrogation.
