Following Election Commission of India’s last-minute directive, central forces have been stationed at entry-gates of high-rise buildings and housing complexes with temporary polling booths for the second phase of Assembly polls in 142 constituencies in West Bengal. The Chief Electoral Officer instructed the deployment of central security forces equipped with public address systems to encourage voters without fear.
The CEO’s office insider revealed that the directive was issued to ensure free, fair, and violence-free polls. Central forces are stationed at entry-gates of high-rise buildings and large housing complexes in Kolkata and three adjacent districts. Polling is also being conducted in six districts under tight security cover with 2,407 companies of central forces deployed.
The second phase of the Assembly polls witnesses webcasting in all polling stations, with a focus on maintaining a peaceful voting environment. The Election Commission is committed to facilitating voters and ensuring a smooth electoral process in West Bengal.
