Several Central government schemes and projects that had been stalled in West Bengal since 2022 are being relaunched, Minister for Panchayats and Rural Development Dilip Ghosh announced. With the influx of central funds, rural development projects are gaining momentum towards implementation. This move is expected to boost employment generation, housing, and rural infrastructure development.
Key central schemes under the State Department of Panchayats and Rural Development in West Bengal, including MGNREGS, PMAY-G, PMGSY, DAY-NRLM, RGSA, NSAP, and others, have been reactivated. A significant effort is underway to enhance rural connectivity under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. Policy approval for a project involving the construction of 2,790 km of new rural roads and 45 bridges in West Bengal has been granted, with joint funding from the Central and State governments.
The ‘100-day work’ scheme is being revived to bring job opportunities to around 2.56 crore job card holders in West Bengal. The ‘Viksit Bharat: Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission (Grameen)’ is set to launch nationwide on July 1, offering 125 days of wage-based employment annually. The Awaas Plus 2024 survey is ongoing under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana to identify genuine beneficiaries for housing schemes.
The revitalization of these schemes is expected to have a significant impact on the rural economy of West Bengal, creating employment opportunities and advancing infrastructure development.
