A team from the Department of Industrial Safety and Boiler Inspectors is set to investigate the tragic incident at the Vedanta power plant in Dabhra tehsil, Chhattisgarh, where multiple workers lost their lives and many others were seriously injured. The central authorities are dispatching this team following a report submitted by the State Boiler Inspector, with their arrival in Sakti expected soon for the inquiry.
In response to the accident, the Chhattisgarh government has initiated its own investigation into the incident at the Vedanta power plant. The Bilaspur Divisional Commissioner has been appointed as the inquiry officer to look into the matter.
The fatal incident occurred on April 14 in Boiler Unit-1 of the plant due to a technical fault in a water supply pipe joint connected to a steam pipeline. The death toll from the boiler explosion has reached 20, with 15 workers currently receiving medical treatment for their injuries at various hospitals.
The state government has emphasized the seriousness of the situation by directing a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the accident. The investigation will focus on determining the causes of the incident, the timeline of events, and the necessary preventive measures to avoid similar tragedies in the future.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has expressed profound sorrow over the incident, describing it as a deeply tragic and painful event. He has honored the deceased workers and extended his sympathies to their families. The Chief Minister has instructed officials to conduct a prompt and impartial investigation and to take stringent action against any individuals found accountable for the accident.
A preliminary technical report by the Chief Boiler Inspector has revealed that excessive fuel accumulation inside the furnace resulted in pressure build-up and damage to connected pipelines, leading to the tragic outcome. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Sakti has supported these findings, identifying fuel overload as the primary factor behind the incident.
