The Centre has approved the appointment of Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court. This decision follows the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium. Justice Rai, currently a judge at the Sikkim High Court, will assume the role after the retirement of the current Chief Justice on June 4.
Born on July 12, 1964, Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai completed her education in Gangtok and Kurseong before pursuing Political Science at Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University. She later obtained her LL.B. degree from the Campus Law Centre, Delhi University in 1989. Prior to her judicial career, she practiced law at the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court as an Advocate-on-Record.
Before her appointment as a judge in 2015, Justice Rai was enrolled with the Bar Association of Delhi in 1990. She has also served as Acting Chief Justice of the Sikkim High Court on several occasions and currently holds the position of Executive Chairperson of the Sikkim State Legal Services Authority.
