The Centre has announced the appointment and transfer of Chief Justices in various High Courts based on recommendations from the Supreme Court Collegium led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. Justice Soumen Sen, currently Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court, has been transferred to serve as the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court following the retirement of Chief Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar on January 9, 2026.
According to a notification by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice, Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo, a Judge of the Orissa High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court. Additionally, Justice Revati Prashant Mohite Dere, a Judge of the Bombay High Court, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court after the transfer of Justice Soumen Sen.
These appointments and transfers align with the recommendations put forth by the Supreme Court Collegium during its meeting on December 18, 2025, which proposed changes in the leadership of several High Courts. However, the Centre is yet to act on two recommendations from the Collegium, involving the appointment of Chief Justices for the Uttarakhand High Court and the Jharkhand High Court.
