The Centre is gearing up to present five new bills in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. These bills cover areas such as income tax, MSME reforms, Supreme Court judge strength, and changes in birth registration laws. Among the proposed legislations are the Income-tax (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026, aimed at replacing existing ordinances.
The Income Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2026, is set to fortify India’s sovereign debt market, attract global capital, and enhance market liquidity amidst global uncertainties. Another bill, the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026, seeks to increase the sanctioned strength of Supreme Court judges from 33 to 37 to expedite pending case resolutions.
Additionally, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026, focuses on promoting ease of doing business and trust-based regulations in the MSME sector. The Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026, aims to streamline rules on delayed registrations. The Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026, aims to strengthen actions against disrespect to national symbols.
In the legislative agenda, two Bills already before Parliament will be addressed, including the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, and the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, 2025. The Monsoon Session, running from July 20 to August 13, is anticipated to witness robust debates between the ruling government and the Opposition.
