Shafi Burfat, Chairman of Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), criticized the Pakistani military for backing religious extremism and terrorism. He highlighted the military’s control over various aspects of Pakistan, posing a threat to democracy and regional stability. Burfat emphasized the military’s influence in politics, media, judiciary, and the economy, alleging a pattern of undemocratic practices.
Burfat specifically called out the Pakistani Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir for his aggressive nationalist rhetoric and nuclear threats towards neighboring nations. He criticized such behavior as reflective of a militarized state structure plagued by internal contradictions and insecurities. The Sindhi leader accused the military of perpetuating fear, conflict, and manipulation to maintain power.
Describing Pakistan as an “unnatural state structure,” Burfat accused the corrupt military establishment of undermining democratic processes through election manipulation and suppression of dissent. He highlighted the military’s control over key decision-making processes, intimidation of dissenting voices, and indirect rule through compliant political factions.
Burfat urged the international community to pay attention to the Pakistani military’s actions, emphasizing the suppression of democratic voices, human rights violations, and threats to national identities within the country. He called for accountability regarding the military’s support for extremist groups and destabilizing activities in the region.
