Shafi Burfat, the Chairman of Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), has highlighted the troubling situation in Pakistan, pointing out enforced disappearances, political oppression, illegal arrests, torture, and the disposal of mutilated bodies of Sindhi activists. He emphasized that these actions by Pakistani authorities violate international human rights principles. Recent incidents include the arrest and disappearance of JSMM leaders like Roheel Laghari and Saddam Shar during their political engagements. Additionally, several other JSMM members have been arrested and taken to undisclosed locations, raising fears about their safety.
Burfat expressed concerns about the state-level restrictions imposed on Sindhi nationalist political activities, freedom of expression, and the democratic rights of secular nationalist organizations striving for national freedom and historical rights. He condemned the arrest of activists during peaceful political events, their detention in undisclosed torture facilities, and the degrading treatment they face, including instances of mutilated bodies being found on roads. Burfat called on the United Nations, international human rights bodies, and the global community to promptly address the enforced disappearances of Sindhi political activists and ensure their safety and protection.
The Chairman urged immediate action to safeguard the activists allegedly disappeared by Pakistan’s military intelligence agency, including Roheel Laghari, Saddam Shar, Ejaz Gaho, Sohail Bhatti, Pathan Khan Zehrani, Survech Sargani, Survech Nohani, and others. He also appealed to the international community to take note of the restrictions imposed by the state on the political rights, human rights, and democratic freedoms of historical nations within Pakistan, such as Sindh. Burfat stressed that the ongoing arrests of political activists are part of a broader repression by Pakistani authorities, endangering the existence and survival of these nations, compelling them to continue their struggle for freedom in compliance with international law.
