Rajasthan’s Barmer faced chaos as MLA Ravindra Singh Bhati poured petrol over himself in protest at the District Collectorate amid a march by laborers and truck drivers. The protest stemmed from a workers’ convention and rally at a private company, where workers opposed their removal due to new tenders. MLA Bhati had been supporting their demands with a sit-in for the past 14 days.
Accompanied by a large crowd, Bhati led the march towards the district headquarters, encountering police blockades on the way. Despite police efforts to stop them, Bhati and his supporters proceeded on foot towards the Collectorate, where he poured petrol on himself, urging authorities not to harm the laborers.
Eyewitnesses reported the dramatic incident, where Bhati’s emotional plea led to police intervention to prevent any harm. The MLA was escorted inside the Collectorate by police, causing tension among officials. The protest, involving laborers, villagers, and supporters, demanded justice for workers and drivers affected by recent changes.
