The Char Dham Yatra has been halted for Tuesday and Wednesday to ensure the safety of pilgrims, as landslides have blocked multiple routes and a heavy rainfall alert has been issued in Uttarakhand by the Commissioner of Garhwal Division.
The pilgrimage will resume once the weather conditions improve, as per the officials. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for several districts in Uttarakhand due to incessant monsoon showers, leading the state administration to enhance precautionary measures and advise residents and pilgrims to remain vigilant.
In light of the heavy rainfall forecast, people have been urged by the administration to avoid rivers and streams, unnecessary travel, and to be extremely cautious in hilly regions where landslides are likely. Both locals and tourists have been instructed by authorities to adhere strictly to weather advisories and guidelines from the Meteorological Department and district administrations.
As a preventive step amid the predicted intense rainfall, all schools and Anganwadi centers in the affected areas will remain closed on Tuesday. The weather department has warned of heavy rainfall with lightning expected in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Tehri, and Pauri Garhwal districts in the upcoming hours.
