The Greater Chennai Corporation has initiated a voter awareness campaign to promote ethical voting practices and achieve full voter turnout in the upcoming 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. Various awareness programs are being conducted in all 16 Assembly constituencies within the Chennai district. The campaign’s objective is to educate voters on the significance of active participation in the democratic process and to boost voter turnout.
As part of the campaign, a range of outreach activities has been introduced to engage individuals from diverse backgrounds. These activities include cultural performances, folk art displays, messages at bus stops, voter education quizzes, and mobile campaigns on public transport buses. Special voter awareness songs are being broadcast through theaters, radio platforms, and social media to ensure broad outreach and impact.
A significant awareness rally, in partnership with the ride-hailing platform Rapido, was launched near Napier Bridge in Chennai. The rally, which included about 300 motorcycles carrying voter awareness banners, was inaugurated by R. Sugandhi, the Returning Officer for the Chepauk–Triplicane Assembly constituency. The rally, starting from Napier Bridge and heading towards Vivekananda House, attracted public attention along its route, with participants distributing pamphlets and engaging with citizens.
During the rally, participants interacted with shopkeepers and visitors along Marina Beach, emphasizing the importance of voting and encouraging responsible democratic participation. This initiative underscores the administration’s dedication to enhancing democratic engagement and ensuring that every eligible voter is well-informed, motivated, and empowered to exercise their voting rights in the upcoming elections.
