Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and head coach Stephen Fleming have mutually agreed to part ways after an 18-year association. Fleming, a former New Zealand captain, joined CSK as a player in 2008 during the inaugural IPL season and took over as head coach the following year. Under his leadership, CSK achieved remarkable success, winning five Indian Premier League titles and two Champions League Twenty20 trophies.
The decision to end the partnership was made after discussions between Fleming and the franchise management. CSK owner Rupa Gurunath praised Fleming’s significant contribution to the team over the years, highlighting his role in shaping the franchise’s identity and success. Fleming’s departure marks the conclusion of one of the longest and most successful coaching tenures in IPL history.
Reflecting on his time with CSK, Fleming expressed gratitude for the nearly two decades of shared success. He described his coaching stint with the team as the defining chapter of his career, emphasizing the memorable victories and enduring memories created during his tenure. CSK Managing Director Kasi Viswanathan acknowledged Fleming’s impact on and off the field, crediting him with establishing a culture of consistency, humility, and teamwork within the franchise.
Fleming’s departure signifies the end of an era for Chennai Super Kings, with the coach playing a pivotal role in the team’s consistent performance and decorated history since its inception. His influence extended beyond just on-field results, shaping the ethos and values that defined CSK’s journey in the IPL.
