Chennai Super Kings’ skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad expressed his joy after his team successfully chased a target of over 200, defeating Lucknow Super Giants by five wickets in an intense Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. This victory, powered by Urvil Patel’s record 13-ball fifty, marked CSK’s first successful chase of a score above 180 since 2019, propelling them to the fifth spot on the points table. They managed to complete the chase with four balls to spare.
Gaikwad mentioned that chasing a 200-plus target usually extends the innings to the 18th, 19th, or 20th over, despite a strong start in the Power-play. He emphasized the importance of finishing the job, especially after a long gap since their last successful 200-plus chase. Gaikwad shared his thoughts during the post-match presentation ceremony, highlighting the team’s determination and commitment.
The CSK captain also commended his bowlers, particularly Jamie Overton, for their efforts in restricting LSG after a blazing start led by Josh Inglis’ 85 runs. Gaikwad revealed that a crucial message from Sanju Samson during the first strategic time-out motivated the team to bounce back. The team’s strategy post time-out, focusing on the bowlers and tactical play, helped them regain control of the game and turn the tide in their favor.
Gaikwad credited Inglis for his explosive innings, acknowledging the challenge his performance posed to the CSK side. Looking ahead, Gaikwad emphasized the need for good recovery, especially with an upcoming match against LSG in Lucknow on May 15. He highlighted the importance of rest and practice sessions to address areas needing improvement and stressed the team’s commitment to simplicity and continuous progress.
