Chennai Super Kings suffered a seven-wicket loss to Lucknow Super Giants in their recent match. Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag criticized skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad’s tactical decisions during the game. Chennai posted 187/5 while batting first, but Lucknow comfortably chased down the target in just 16.4 overs.
Sehwag questioned the delay in introducing spin bowlers against the aggressive opening pair of Lucknow. He suggested that using spin early on could have disrupted Lucknow’s momentum. The former cricketer also criticized Gaikwad’s captaincy, highlighting a lack of experimentation during the Powerplay despite the struggles of the fast bowlers.
Sehwag believed that a more proactive approach with spin bowlers could have potentially changed the course of the game. He emphasized the importance of trying different strategies, especially against Lucknow’s inconsistent middle-order batsmen. Despite the defeat, Chennai Super Kings are still in the running for a playoff spot with 12 points from 12 matches.
