The Greater Chennai Traffic Police have revealed extensive traffic diversions and road closures ahead of the Republic Day celebrations on January 26. Full-dress rehearsals are scheduled for January 19, 21, and 23, leading to traffic restrictions for four days, including Republic Day itself. Kamarajar Salai will be shut to all vehicular traffic from 6 a.m. on rehearsal days and on January 26, from the Gandhi Statue to the War Memorial.

The restricted area spans from the Gandhi Statue to the War Memorial and will be closed until the rehearsals or the main function conclude, tentatively around 9.30 a.m. Commercial vehicles traveling from Adyar to Parrys Corner via Kamarajar Salai will be redirected at Greenways Point. They will be guided through a series of alternative routes to reach their destination, including R.K. Mutt Road, Thiruvenkadam Street, Devanathan Street, and others.

For vehicles coming from Mylapore and Dr. Radhakrishnan Road at Royapettah I Point, mandatory left turns will be enforced for MTC buses towards specific routes. Other vehicles will have the flexibility to choose left or right turns to reach their intended locations. Additional closures will be in place at various junctions, with diversions set up accordingly to manage traffic flow during the Republic Day celebrations.

Motorists are urged to plan their journeys in advance and adhere to the instructions provided by traffic authorities during the period of restrictions to ensure smooth traffic operations.
