Chennaiyin FC experienced a narrow 1-0 loss to Punjab FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2026 in Chennai. Despite displaying consistent attacking efforts, they were undone by a late own-goal. Head coach Clifford Rayes Miranda made tactical changes, including bringing back midfielder Mohammed Ali Bemammer and adjusting the defensive lineup.

In the early stages, Pritam Kotal made a crucial goal-line clearance, while Laldinliana Renthlei’s block denied a clear scoring opportunity. The match evolved into a midfield battle with both teams struggling to dominate. Chennaiyin remained defensively solid but failed to capitalize on attacking chances.

As the game progressed, Chennaiyin continued to push forward but lacked precision in front of goal. Substitute Klusner Pereira and skipper Alberto Noguera created opportunities, but Chennaiyin’s efforts were thwarted. Punjab FC capitalized on a late set-piece, leading to an own goal by Hnamte. Chennaiyin FC will now face NorthEast United in their next match.
