Chennaiyin FC is set to start their Indian Super League (ISL) 2025-26 journey against Mumbai City FC at the Mumbai Football Arena. The match will mark the beginning of a challenging four-game away series for Chennaiyin FC, who are eager to make a strong start despite a tough and shortened preparation period. Head coach Clifford Miranda, speaking at a pre-match press conference, acknowledged the difficulties but expressed confidence in his team’s readiness.

Miranda shared that the team has chosen a five-member leadership group for the season, including players like Pritam Kotal, Mandar Rao Dessai, Elsinho, Alberto Noguera, and Mohammed Ali Bemammer. This diverse group of leaders, blending domestic experience with international talent, was selected collectively by the squad. Miranda emphasized that he expects leadership qualities from all 29 players in his squad.

Ahead of the Mumbai City clash, Miranda’s team is focused on adapting to a new playing style under the coach’s guidance. Defender Pritam Kotal highlighted the adjustment process and emphasized the team’s determination to showcase a different brand of football that will resonate with fans. The team’s primary goal remains to deliver a strong performance and secure a victory in their opening match.

New signing Alberto Noguera, a Spanish playmaker with significant experience in Indian football, expressed his seamless integration into Chennaiyin FC and his optimism for a successful season. Noguera credited Miranda’s influence in his decision to join the club and conveyed his commitment to contributing positively to the team’s objectives. The team is united in its readiness and determination to excel in the upcoming season.

Miranda, who will face his former team Mumbai City, downplayed any sentimental value attached to the encounter and maintained his focus on the game’s tactical aspects. The coach emphasized that facing former teams is a common occurrence in football and underlined the importance of concentrating on the present challenge. Miranda also confirmed the team’s full squad availability for the Mumbai City fixture, except for Daniel Chima Chukwu, pending documentation clearance.
