Chennamma, the wife of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda, was cremated with full state honors in Mavinakere village of Hassan district. Leaders from both the Centre and Karnataka paid their final respects at the funeral. Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar paid homage and presented the Tricolour to Deve Gowda.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi represented the Central government at the funeral, while Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also paid tribute to Chennamma. The final rites took place in the presence of family members, political leaders, and supporters. Pralhad Joshi and Shivraj Singh Chouhan offered floral tributes and conveyed condolences on behalf of the Central government.
Deve Gowda was visibly emotional throughout the day, with all dignitaries offering their respects and condolences. Chief Minister Shivakumar touched Deve Gowda’s feet after the Tricolour handover. Pralhad Joshi expressed grief over Chennamma’s demise, highlighting her role as a pillar of strength in Deve Gowda’s life. He described her as a symbol of simplicity and grace.
