The Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant, praised young chess prodigy Divya Deshmukh during the presentation of the Dynamite News Young India Country Award. He expressed the nation’s anticipation of Deshmukh’s future accomplishments in chess. CJI Surya Kant also commended the award jury for recognizing talent across various fields.
Senior IAS officer Sanjay Kothari lauded Divya for her outstanding achievements and acknowledged her parents, Dr. Namrata and Dr. Jitendra Deshmukh, for their support. Divya, after receiving the honor, expressed her gratitude for being selected by the Dynamite News jury. She mentioned that the award would serve as further motivation in her career.
At just 19 years old, Divya Deshmukh made history by winning the FIDE Women’s World Cup 2025, becoming the first Indian woman to achieve this feat. In an intense final, she defeated Koneru Humpy to secure the prestigious title. The Dynamite News Young India Country Award, which also recognized Manu Bhaker and Ruma Devi, includes a citation, plaque, shawl, and a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh each.
