The monsoon session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly started with a tribute to the late folk artist Tejan Bai, a Padma Vibhushan awardee. The House honored her memory with a two-minute silence and a five-minute adjournment as a mark of respect.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai praised Tejan Bai’s significant contributions to Chhattisgarh’s cultural heritage during the condolence motion. He highlighted her role in popularizing the Kapalik style of Pandwani and showcasing the state’s folk culture globally through her exceptional artistry. Despite facing challenges, her talent and perseverance propelled her to great success, serving as an inspiration for future generations.
Culture Minister Rajesh Agrawal and former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel lauded Tejan Bai for bringing international acclaim to Chhattisgarh. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kedar Kashyap emphasized her dedication to folk art, describing her as an invaluable asset to the world of folk culture. Various ministers and MLAs also paid heartfelt tributes to her pioneering efforts in preserving and promoting Pandwani.
As the session resumed, a dispute arose between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress regarding the alleged theft of offerings from the Ram Mandir. The opposition’s adjournment motion on the issue was rejected, leading to protests from Congress members. The ensuing deadlock and heated exchanges prompted Assembly Speaker Raman Singh to adjourn the proceedings till the next day.
