The Government of Chhattisgarh has officially named Arun Dev Gautam, a Senior Indian Police Service officer, as the full-time Director General of Police for the state. This appointment follows recommendations from a panel set up by the Union Public Service Commission in New Delhi. Arun Dev Gautam, a respected officer from the 1992 batch of the Indian Police Service, was previously serving as the In-Charge Director General of Police at the Police Headquarters in Raipur.
With the issuance of the official order from the Home Department in Nava Raipur’s Mahanadi Bhawan, Arun Dev Gautam’s elevation to the top police rank in Chhattisgarh has been regularized retrospectively from February 5, 2025, the date he assumed the responsibility. The state government has granted him the apex scale, entailing a fixed pay of 2,25,000 rupees at level 17 of the pay matrix. This formal notification was put into effect on Saturday.
Arun Dev Gautam hails from a farmer’s family in Abhaypur village, Fatehpur district, Uttar Pradesh. His educational journey began in rural schools and culminated with a Master of Arts in Political Science and an MPhil in International Law from Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. Initially allocated to the Madhya Pradesh cadre, he later chose to serve in Chhattisgarh after the state’s formation in 2000. Gautam built his reputation through dedicated policing, having served as Superintendent of Police in six challenging districts: Rajnandgaon, Bilaspur, Raigarh, Jashpur, Surguja, and Koriya.
