In a move to aid rural welfare, the Chhattisgarh government has extended financial assistance to landless agricultural laborers in Dhamtari district. Under the Deendayal Upadhyay Landless Agricultural Laborers Welfare Scheme, each eligible beneficiary has received Rs 10,000 directly in their bank accounts. This initiative has resulted in over Rs 33 crore being disbursed to more than 23,000 beneficiaries in Dhamtari district through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

The financial aid has brought relief and joy to the recipients, many of whom rely on seasonal agricultural work for their livelihood. This support has been particularly beneficial during the summer months when employment opportunities are limited, helping them manage essential expenses, especially during the ongoing wedding season.

Beneficiaries have expressed their gratitude towards both the state government led by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and the Central government for fulfilling the commitment of providing annual financial assistance. Pardeshi Soni, one of the beneficiaries, emphasized the significance of the support during times of scarcity and high expenses, stating that it has helped meet household needs.

Sukhlal Netam, another beneficiary, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the tangible impact of welfare schemes on the lives of underprivileged families. He praised the government for delivering on its promise and emphasized the importance of financial assistance, especially during the marriage season. Khemraj Sahu, also a beneficiary, noted that the scheme not only offers financial aid but also instills confidence among laborers, making them feel supported and secure.

Raja Pawar, a resident of Ward 1 in Dhamtari, welcomed the initiative, acknowledging its role in alleviating financial burdens for many families in the area. The Deendayal Upadhyay Landless Agricultural Laborers Welfare Scheme is a significant endeavor by the Chhattisgarh government to empower economically disadvantaged landless laborer families. By ensuring regular financial support, the scheme aims to enhance living standards and foster social and economic self-reliance among the beneficiaries.

The BJP government in the state had pledged to provide Rs 10,000 annually to landless agricultural laborers under “PM Modi’s guarantee.” With the implementation of this scheme, the Union government has taken a step towards fulfilling that commitment, emphasizing its commitment to welfare-oriented governance. Officials anticipate that such targeted welfare programs will bolster rural economies and offer a safety net to vulnerable sections, particularly those reliant on uncertain agricultural incomes.
