Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is in Jammu and Kashmir for a three-day visit to oversee the electoral process at the grassroots level. During his stay, he will engage with voters, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in Budgam district, and various electoral stakeholders to evaluate the field-level election machinery. This visit aims to review electoral initiatives being implemented at the grassroots level.
Upon his arrival at Sheikh-ul-Alam International Airport, Gyanesh Kumar was warmly welcomed by Chief Electoral Officer Sanjeev Verma, Deputy Commissioner Athar Aamir Khan, and other senior officers from the Administration and the Election Department. The Election Commission of India is committed to enhancing voter engagement, field-level preparedness, and democratic participation through such visits, promoting electoral awareness and transparency in election management.
This visit seeks to collect feedback directly from the ground, promote electoral awareness, and ensure the transparency of election management processes. Gyanesh Kumar assumed office as the 26th Chief Election Commissioner of India on February 19, 2025, after serving as an Election Commissioner since March 15, 2024. Previously, during the anticipated Assembly Elections in August 2024, the full commission, led by then CEC Rajiv Kumar, visited Jammu and Kashmir for a comprehensive review of election preparedness.
