Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has expressed his backing for the proposal to establish an Indian Premier League (IPL) team representing Bihar. He mentioned that the government is actively working to enhance cricket infrastructure and opportunities for young players in the state. This support follows a social media post by a cricket enthusiast emphasizing the accomplishments of various cricketers from Bihar and questioning the absence of an IPL franchise for the state.
The post highlighted the achievements of players like Ishan Kishan from Patna, who set a record for one of the fastest ODI double centuries, Vaibhav Suryavanshi from Samastipur, one of the youngest IPL debutants, and Saqib Hussain from Gopalganj, whose bowling performances have garnered attention. In response, CM Choudhary affirmed his agreement with the sentiment and assured that the Bihar government is actively pursuing cricket development with a clear vision and mission.
Furthermore, the state government is focusing on enhancing sports infrastructure throughout Bihar. Plans include the development of a new international-standard cricket stadium in Rajgir with a seating capacity of approximately 40,000 spectators. Additionally, renovation work is being planned at the historic Moin-ul-Haq Stadium in Patna to enhance cricketing facilities in the state. The Rajgir Cricket Stadium at the Rajgir Sports Complex is seen as a significant milestone for Bihar’s sports infrastructure and a step forward for the state’s cricketing ambitions.
The international-standard stadium, built over 18 acres of land, boasts a seating capacity of 40,000 spectators and features modern amenities such as a media gallery, player facilities, and provisions for spectator comfort. Constructed under the guidance of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Rajgir Cricket Stadium aligns with international standards.
