Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari of West Bengal declared a strict stance against assaults on law enforcement officials during protests, emphasizing that such actions would not be tolerated in the state. Adhikari’s remarks came following a violent incident in Park Circus, where demonstrators reportedly threw stones and bricks at police officers during a protest against the demolition of illegal structures. He asserted that any future attacks on the police would be met with severe legal consequences.
Adhikari labeled the protest against the use of bulldozers as a premeditated event, leading to heightened tensions in the Park Circus area. The situation escalated as protesters clashed with the police, resulting in injuries and damage to vehicles. Additional security forces were deployed to restore order in the area.
Praising the police’s response to the unrest, Adhikari visited the site and expressed solidarity with the injured personnel. He emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order, urging organizations to conduct programs peacefully without resorting to violence. Adhikari warned against any repeat of such incidents and vowed to uphold a zero-tolerance policy towards disruptive activities.
