Chief Minister Mohan Yadav is set to lay the foundation stone for the Rs 5,017 crore Ujjain-Jaora Greenfield four-lane highway project on Friday, as announced by the Madhya Pradesh government. The 98.73-km highway, to be constructed by the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC), is scheduled to be finished within two years. It will traverse through various Assembly constituencies, including Ujjain South, Ghattiya, Nagda-Khachrod, Alot, and Jaora.
The state government highlighted that this initiative aims to enhance road connectivity in the Malwa region and grant Ujjain direct access to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Anticipated to benefit approximately 3.5 million individuals and enhance connectivity for 62 villages, the highway is expected to play a crucial role in facilitating travel for pilgrims and tourists heading to Ujjain during Simhastha-2028. The new route is projected to provide easier access to Ujjain for visitors from Rajasthan, Gujarat, and other parts of the country.
The Ujjain-Jaora Greenfield highway project encompasses the construction of three railway overbridges, nine major bridges, 26 medium bridges, and 417 culverts. Additionally, service roads will be developed on both sides from the Jaora bypass interchange of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway to the Mhow-Neemuch four-lane highway to ease local traffic flow. Strengthening road connections between Ujjain, Indore, Bhopal, and other regions in Malwa, the highway is expected to reduce travel time and enhance the movement of both passenger and commercial vehicles.
The state government emphasized that improved road connectivity will facilitate faster transportation of agricultural produce to markets, benefiting farmers. Furthermore, the enhanced infrastructure is poised to bolster industrial growth, trade, and logistics operations in the area. The project’s completion is anticipated to lead to reduced fuel consumption, enhanced road safety, and decreased transportation expenses. Described as a significant infrastructure endeavor for the state, the Ujjain-Jaora Greenfield highway project is expected to play a pivotal role in the economic and social advancement of the Malwa region.
