Chief Ministers, Deputy Chief Ministers, and Finance Ministers from various states and Union Territories gathered in New Delhi for a pre-Budget consultation meeting. Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh officials requested more financial aid from the Centre to bolster their infrastructure initiatives. Mizoram Minister Vanlalthlana and Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein highlighted their states’ infrastructure needs during the meeting.
The annual pre-Budget consultation meeting, chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, aimed to gather input for the upcoming Union Budget 2026-27. Discussions revolved around sharing priorities and suggestions for the budget. Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, along with several Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers, participated in the meeting to discuss fiscal matters.
The Budget session of Parliament is set to begin on January 28 and run until April 2. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced that the session will have two phases, with the first phase ending on February 13 and the second phase commencing on March 9. President Droupadi Murmu has approved the summoning of both Houses of Parliament for the Budget Session 2026, emphasizing the importance of meaningful debate and people-centric governance.
