A shocking incident unfolded in Bihar’s Siwan district when a stray bullet, originally aimed at a nilgai, struck a four-year-old child, causing critical injuries. The event, which occurred in a village under the Siswan police station area on a Tuesday evening, has sparked panic and outrage among locals.
According to a police official, the mishap took place as some individuals were illicitly attempting to shoot a nilgai without authorization. During this unlawful act, a bullet veered off course and hit the child in the stomach while he was playing outside his residence. The severely wounded child was initially taken to a nearby health center and later transferred to the Siwan district hospital due to the seriousness of his condition.
The child, whose condition is described as serious, is currently undergoing treatment in Patna for advanced medical care. The child’s family recounted that the incident transpired while he was playing in front of their home. The child’s mother alleged that four armed young men had come near their house with rifles to hunt a nilgai.
She mentioned that despite their protests, the men persisted, leading to the tragic outcome. The child’s mother also shared her unsuccessful attempt to apprehend one of the suspects, who managed to flee with the help of others. Villagers, upon hearing the commotion, swiftly organized transportation to rush the injured child to the hospital.
Upon being informed of the incident, the Siswan police station initiated an investigation. The Station House Officer (SHO) Ashok Kumar confirmed the launch of the probe and stated that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the suspects based on the mother’s statement. The SHO assured that the culprits will soon be arrested, with strict legal actions to follow.
The incident has reignited concerns regarding the unlawful use of firearms and poaching in rural regions, prompting villagers to demand the immediate arrest of the perpetrators and seek compensation for the child’s family.
