A child in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district was seriously injured in a crude bomb explosion when he confused it for a ball. The incident took place in the Basanti area late Wednesday night. The child has been hospitalized in Kolkata for treatment, with reports indicating a serious condition.
The explosion occurred in the Kharimachhan area within the Amjhara Gram Panchayat area of Basanti block. Local residents mentioned that the child was playing inside an abandoned house when the bomb detonated unexpectedly. Authorities are investigating how the explosive device ended up in the vacant property.
Upon receiving the alert, officers from Basanti police station rushed to the site and initiated a probe. Fragments of the detonated bomb were found scattered throughout the house. Forensic teams conducted an examination of the premises the following morning, with the area subsequently cordoned off for security measures.
Following the incident, a police picket was established in the vicinity. A senior officer from Baruipur Police District confirmed the child’s injury, stating that the bomb explosion occurred while the child was playing with it, resulting in serious harm. Investigations are ongoing to determine the origins of the bomb and how it came to be inside the abandoned structure.
