The Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), successfully rescued four children who were stranded in the Tawi River near Peer Kho Temple due to a sudden increase in water levels. The rescue operation, carried out swiftly and efficiently, ensured the safe retrieval of the children without any injuries. Authorities received a distress call via the Police Control Room alerting them to the situation.
Following the rescue, officials emphasized the importance of caution near rivers, especially during periods of fluctuating water levels. Parents were urged to prevent their children from going near the river to avoid potential dangers. The Jammu Police and SDRF highlighted the need for immediate reporting of emergencies to prevent tragic incidents, particularly during the monsoon season.
In recent months, Jammu and Kashmir have witnessed several drowning incidents, particularly involving children and youths. The region often experiences a rise in drowning cases during the summer months, with many incidents occurring in unguarded rivers like the Jhelum, Sindh, and Tawi, as well as in streams and hydropower canals.
