China has stated that President Donald Trump’s recent visit to Beijing resulted in progress on tariffs, trade mechanisms, and educational exchanges. China’s Deputy Ambassador to the United States, Qui Wenxing, termed the summit between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping as “historic and successful.” Qui emphasized the importance of mutual respect, strategic stability, and achieving win-win results in the China-US relationship.
Qui highlighted the respect and close communications between President Xi and President Trump, stating that both nations are working towards a positive path of cooperation. He mentioned that the summit aimed at establishing a constructive China-US relationship of strategic stability for the coming years. Qui emphasized the significance of cooperation while acknowledging the presence of competition in economic and trade areas.
According to Qui, the summit yielded tangible outcomes, including discussions on reciprocal tariff reductions amounting to billions of dollars on each side. The two governments agreed to establish intergovernmental trade and investment councils, address non-tariff barriers, and explore solutions for supply chain concerns. China also committed to purchasing Boeing aircraft and promoting educational exchanges by inviting American students to China.
The diplomatic engagement between the US and China occurred amidst ongoing tensions over tariffs, technology restrictions, and strategic competition. Despite these challenges, both countries have expressed a willingness to enhance high-level engagement and prevent further deterioration in their relationship.
