China showcased its prowess at the Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China, by clinching five gold, two silver, and two bronze medals in the sailing competition. Chinese sailors excelled in various categories, with Cheng Wenyu winning gold in the girls’ Optimist event and expressing joy at triumphing in her hometown. The inclusion of foil windsurfing and Formula Kite, set to debut at Paris 2024 Olympics, added excitement to the sailing program.

Chinese speed climber Zhao Yicheng made headlines by setting a new men’s speed world record of 4.58 seconds during the preliminaries. Zhao’s remarkable performance, surpassing the previous record of 4.64 seconds, highlighted his exceptional talent and potential. The hosts, including all four Chinese men and women climbers, demonstrated strong performances, advancing to the next round in the competition.

Chief referee David Brookes praised the orderly progress of the sailing event, attributing it to the favorable weather conditions in Sanya Bay that facilitate year-round training and competitions. The event saw Thailand securing two gold medals, while Singapore claimed one, showcasing a competitive field at the Asian Beach Games.
