The Chintan Shivir of the Ministers of Youth Affairs & Sports of States and Union Territories began in Srinagar with discussions on enhancing India’s sports ecosystem through coordinated efforts and policy reforms. Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, stressed the need for translating India’s sports ambitions into actions on the ground, moving beyond mere plans.
During the event, the Honourable Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, lauded the vision of positioning India as a sports powerhouse. Dr. Mandaviya urged states to shift from policy formulation to active implementation, emphasizing the importance of visible progress at the grassroots level and in training systems.
The Minister highlighted the significance of bridging the gap between State Governments and Sports Federations to establish a robust talent pipeline. He emphasized the role of physical education teachers in nurturing young talent and the necessity of aligning with the education system for early talent identification. Dr. Mandaviya also stressed the transformative power of sports in fostering social harmony and national integration, particularly in challenging regions like Jammu & Kashmir.
The Chintan Shivir featured discussions on medal strategies, policy coordination, clean sport initiatives, and talent identification and development. Eminent sports personalities, including Adille Sumariwalla, Abhinav Bindra, Pullela Gopichand, and Gagan Narang, shared insights at the event. The focus remained on enhancing infrastructure, coaching systems, and ensuring ethical sporting environments to build a strong sporting ecosystem in India.
