Adelaide Strikers’ opener Chris Lynn has made history in the Big Bash League (BBL) by surpassing 4,000 runs, a first in the tournament’s history. Lynn achieved this milestone during the 17th match of the ongoing 15th edition of the BBL while playing for the Strikers against Brisbane Heat at the Adelaide Oval. In a chase for 122 runs, Lynn’s unbeaten 41-ball 79 led the Strikers to a seven-wicket victory.
Lynn’s innings included six fours and six sixes, scoring at a remarkable rate of 192.68 as the Strikers secured a comfortable win on New Year’s Eve. With this feat, Lynn, in 131 BBL matches (129 innings), has accumulated a total of 4,065 runs at an average of 36.29, featuring a century and 32 fifties, the latest of which was on Wednesday.
After restricting the Heat to 121 all out in 19.4 overs, the Strikers clinched victory with 35 balls to spare, largely due to Lynn’s dominant performance. The Heat faced a collapse, reaching 21 for five within six overs, with key contributions from Jamie Overton, Liam Scott, and Hasan Ali in the Strikers’ bowling attack.
The Strikers’ chase faced early setbacks with the dismissals of Matt Short, Mackenzie Harvey, and Jerriss Wadia. However, Lynn’s exceptional batting display, which included becoming the first player to reach 4,000 runs in BBL history, ensured the Strikers’ triumph. Lynn’s record-extending 32nd BBL half-century and a spectacular finish with three consecutive sixes sealed the victory.
The win not only marked the Strikers’ first victory in the December 31 clash since 2018 but also avenged their recent defeat to Brisbane Heat, ending a seven-year BBL New Year’s Eve drought.
